About Our Heritage

Preserving the rich cultural legacy of the Oromo people while building bridges to the future through education, celebration, and community.

Our Story

Founded on the principles of cultural preservation and community empowerment

The Oromo Heritage Foundation was established in 2018 by a group of passionate community leaders in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Recognizing the need to preserve and celebrate Oromo culture for future generations, we began as a small grassroots organization with a big vision.

Today, we serve thousands of community members through cultural programs, educational initiatives, and the annual Irreecha Festival celebration. Our work bridges traditional Oromo values with contemporary American life, creating spaces where heritage thrives.

From language classes to cultural workshops, from community support to advocacy, we remain committed to ensuring that Oromo heritage continues to flourish in the diaspora while contributing to the rich multicultural fabric of our communities.
